If you are among those people who find it very hard to get 6-pack-abs despite working out hard and dieting, you might want to think about abdominoplasty. Also known as tummy tuck, this cosmetic surgery is done in order to flatten the person’s abdomen by removing the excessive fat and skin. By doing this, you are making the abdominal muscles much more firm. There’s no faster way to gain 6 packs than doing a tummy tuck.

The candidate

Tummy tuck is a type of cosmetic surgery that can be done on anyone, as long as the person is healthy. However, it is recommended mostly for those whose abdomen tissues are loose and saggy. This is often the case with women after pregnancy. Similar thing happens to people who rapidly lost a lot of weight.

Also, abdominoplasty is recommended for elderly patients who already did a liposuction. Because liposuction is removing only the fat from the body, the skin on those persons might stay saggy. Because of that, a surgery is needed in order to remove the excessive skin.

How’s it Done?

The surgery needs to be done with the patient in general anesthesia. The whole process lasts on average about 5 hours, after which the patient should be monitored by the hospital staff for at least one more day. That way, it will be assured that no side effects to the patient could happen.

Full recovery from this procedure takes no less than 3 months, but the patients are advised to stay from hard work and heavy lifting only in the first couple of weeks.

When it comes to results of tummy tuck, they are seen right away. The excessive fat and saggy skin is removed, which means that with a healthy diet and regular exercise, the problem will not happen again.

Many people take the opportunity to do several surgeries at once. Usually, tummy tucking accompanies liposuction when the patient is an elderly person. Breast reduction and breast lifting are also surgeries that sometimes are done together with abdominoplasty. The same goes for hysterectomy.

Rhinoplasty, commonly known as the nose job, is one of the most popular types of cosmetic surgeries. In fact, only breast augmentation surgeries are more common that the nose job when it comes to the USA. Luckily for you, every clinic for cosmetic surgery includes this procedure in their offer. That means that if you look hard enough, you will be able to find great professionals whose services do not cost much.

How is Nose Job Done?

Cosmetic nose surgery is performed under general anesthesia, which allows the surgeon to perform the surgery with greater comfort. During the nose job surgery, monitoring equipment needs to be used in order to monitor the patient’s heart rate, blood pressure and so on.

After the nose surgery, in order to achieve an immobilization of the tissues, the surgeon will place a splint on the ridge of your nose. When the operation is completed, you will be transported into semi-intensive care unit, where you will be still monitored for a certain period of time. Usually, you can go home after a few hours, unless the surgeon or anesthesiologist says different.

Generally, the bruising around the face and eyes is only visible during the first five days after the nose job. You can use makeup to hide the bruises if necessary. On the other hand, swelling may last for longer than a month.

The goal of rhinoplasty is making the nose look more natural and to harmoniously fit in with your face. Face lift or facial rejuvenation is in the domain of cosmetic surgery and involves lifting or tightening of the skin of the face and neck to the desired strength and shape. With age comes a change in the face and neck, which is a normal part of the aging process. Many surgeons believe that due to many factors (genetic, effects of sunlight) this problem comes sooner than expected. Good news that in the 21st century, face lift is a procedure that’s fairly easy to do.

The candidate

Although the surgery can be done even on the elder people, the most ideal patient is between 40 and 60 years of age. On top of that, it would be ideal if the person weighs normally and has good bone structure. When it comes to features of their face, it would be great if that person had firm and healthy skin, and thin neck.

If you fit the profile, you have nothing to worry about – almost any clinic in the world can help you with your problem. Those who don’t think they are ideal for the face lift surgery should not despair. The trick is simply to pick a better surgeon. You might need to pay more, but you will not get disappointed with the results.

How is Face Lift Performed?

Face lift (rhytidectomia) is aimed to tighten and lift the sagging facial tissues and remove wrinkles. Those who do the face lift can re-establish the pleasant contours of the face and neck, making them look and feel younger.

Face lift can be performed under general, but in most cases, the local anesthesia is used. In general, the incision is hidden in the scalp, in the natural contour of the ear, extends around the ear lobule, behind the ear lobes and ending at the back part of the neck. That assures that the scar can be tucked away easily.

Once the surgery is done, the patient needs to spend a few more hours in the hospital so the medical team can monitor them in order to avoid any possibility of side effects. On the first postoperative day, the patient’s head movements should be reduced to a minimum. The head needs to be elevated at an angle about 30 degrees.

Hair care can start the second or third postoperative day. It is allowed to use a mild shampoo on the third day after surgery. The hair can be dried with a hair dryer at a moderate temperature, but you need to avoid the sun exposure at least one month after the surgery.

Breast augmentation implant

Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation is one of the most common and the most popular operation in cosmetic surgery. Whatever the reason might be for deciding on this kind of surgery, you can be almost certain that everything is going to go as planned. This is a routine operation which quickly gives a nice result.

Who Should Do It?

Any woman who feels that her breasts are too small is a potential candidate for this sort of surgery. It’s up to medicinal team of the hospital whether the health condition of the person allows them to have the surgery.

How is the Breast Augmentation Done?

Prostheses used for breast augmentation can be placed either under the fascia or below the muscle (just below the gland). When it comes to young women who have yet to have children, that is to breastfeed, the implants are placed under the muscle, i.e. away from the glandular tissue of the breast. For other patients, the latest techniques of placing implants under the fascia usually applied.

Two Types of Implants

It is very important that during the initial examination, you tell your surgeon what exactly you want. You need to be clear and tell exactly what kind of breasts you want and what you expect from the surgery. The surgeon will then review all of the options, including the position of the cut, as well as the size, shape and volume of the implant.

Generally, there are two possibilities – round or anatomical implants (natural form). When the cosmetic surgeon gives you all the details related to both kinds of implants, making the final decision will not be that hard.

The whole procedure lasts for a couple of hours, while the patient is advised to stay in the hospital for a day. When it comes to pain after the surgery, it is very rare. In fact, if the implants are placed under the muscle, pain and discomfort are impossible to happen.

The first month after the surgery is crucial. It is important not to lift heavy stuff nor do any kind of physical work. In fact, it is advisable that during that period you avoid driving a car. To keep the wound protected and the implants in the right place, wearing a special medicinal bra is recommended.

All You Need to Know About Liposuction

Liposuction is one of the most popular methods in cosmetic surgery. It owes it fame for being extremely successful. On top of that, this procedure can be done in almost every part of the body. With liposuction, you can lose up to 5 kilograms of body fat from regions like waist, buttocks, calf, and abdomen. Usually, it is very hard to lose fat from these regions, which is why so many people decide on liposuction.

How is it Done?

The surgery is performed through small incisions, about 2mm thick, through which thin cannulas go under the skin and into the lamellar layer of the fat. Cannulas will permanently disrupt the walls of fat cells so that the grease leaks and fat cells withered.

If the liposuction is performed on smaller regions, like areas around hips, for example, then local anesthesia is done and the patient can go home a few hours after the surgery. When it comes to larger regions, such as abdomen, the patient needs to be put in total anesthesia and should stay in the hospital for 2-3 days.

The candidate?

There are no limits to who can have a liposuction, although if we were to decide on who the best patient would be, then it’s a person between 30 and 50 with 10 to 15 kilograms over the recommended weight. Because liposuction can only help you with up to 5 kilograms of fat, patients with obesity problems might not find it useful.

Elderly patients is also a candidate. This procedure is very safe, so they have nothing to worry about their health. However, the problem can occur because their skin might not be able to shrink after the liposuction, so they might end up needing another surgery.

Results of Liposuction

The results of this operation are visible immediately and the best think that with healthy lifestyle, they can be permanent. If after the operation, you keep on paying attention to your diet and levels of exercise, you can be sure that fat won’t come back in that region.

Because the fat extracted with liposuction is of very high quality and contains a high amount of stem cells, the material can be used for other plastic surgeries. The fat can be used as wrinkle filer or to enhance some other facial feature, but it can also be used for filling the buttocks or calves, making them bigger.

Liposuction: perfect for getting rid of small areas of resilient fat

Today I’d like to discuss exactly what liposuction is and how it differs from the tummy tuck since most people tend to mix up the two. The procedure is normally done on the abdomen, thighs, and buttocks.  During liposuction tubes are inserted into the body through incisions and the fat is then sucked out. It will normally cost between 2000 $ and 4000 $.

This procedure is ideal for removing stubborn fat that just won’t go away with diet and exercise. Do not expect a huge weight loss from this as the patients are expected to be in good shape as it is. People with a lot of excess fat and loose skin should look elsewhere as lipo can’t help with completely reshaping the body. It’s also unable of removing cellulite. For such procedures, where a patient has a large amount of tissue that needs to be removed, a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is the better alternative.

How will the procedure look like?

First, the surgeon will mark the areas of the body that he will need to attend to. Depending on the individual patient, they will be put either under general or local anesthesia. After the patient is properly sedated small incisions will be made in the natural body creases to assure the scars be as discrete as possible.  When more areas are being covered, multiple incisions are made for the separate areas. Through these incisions, small hollow tubes are inserted. The surgeon then moves the tubes around to loosen the fat which is then suctioned through the tube. Incisions are then closed with stitches.

What about the recovery time and aftercare?

If the procedure had gone according to plan the patient is free to leave the hospital within a few hours. While exercise is prohibited for the next three weeks, most patients can return to non-strenuous work after 2-3 days. Bruising, soreness, and swelling are expected in the weeks after the procedure, the patient might even have to wear a compressive garment to control the swelling. The incisions shouldn’t be subjects to force or excessive motion during the healing period.

What to expect from the surgery?

As with any surgery, there are risks involved as well.  Although rare, risks include infection, uneven skin contours, and skin discoloration.

It usually takes up to 3 months for the proper results of the surgery to become visible as some swelling might persist. If done correctly, the scars should be practically undetectable. Liposuction tends to increase the individual’s metabolic rate and the patient could find it easier to drop pounds post-op. Since the fat cells are removed permanently from the area additional weight gain is highly unlikely.

Everything you ever wanted to know about the Tummy Tuck aka Abdominoplasty

Tummy tuck is a wide-spread cosmetic procedure where a surgeon removes excessive fat and/or skin from the abdominal area.  It is by no means a quick fix for someone who would like to drop a few pounds without putting in the effort of a healthy diet and exercise regime. Depending on the extent of the procedure, it’ll costs you anywhere between 3000 $ and 12,000 $. While abdominoplasty is not to be confused with liposuction, some patients do decide to combine the two procedures.

Is it the right procedure for me?

The two main types of people who decide to undertake the procedure are those who had lost weight but are struggling with getting rid of the remaining abdominal fat and stretched-out skin, and women wishing to tighten up their stomachs post-pregnancy. A tummy tuck is NOT for people who are planning on losing vast amounts of weight in the future or for women who are planning any future pregnancies.

The two types of tucks

Complete abdominoplasty is the more extreme of the two procedures and reserved for patients who need a lot of excess material removed. An incision is made from hipbone to hipbone and the muscle, skin and tissue are manipulated as needed. This surgery usually involves altering the placement of the belly button due to the vast amount of tissue removed. This procedure can take up to 5 hours.

Partial abdominoplasty is usually done for people whose fat deposits have gathered primarily bellow the navel. This procedure doesn’t involve moving the bell button and normally takes no longer than two hours.

The healing process and getting back to normal

Depending on the complexity of the procedure you might have to stay at the hospital overnight. After the procedure, the area will be stitched and bandaged, as well as very very sore. The aftercare is of the utmost importance and the patient must attend the bandages regularly. The doctor will also advise you on the initial sitting and sleep positions that will promote faster healing. Patients are sometimes advised to take a month off work so the body is allowed to heal properly. Exercise is to be avoided for at least 6 weeks.

Patients, in general, are extremely happy with the results of their tummy tucks. It is, however, important to keep up with a healthy diet and lifestyle in order to maintain the acquired abdomen. A poor high-caloric diet can easily reverse the marvelous results of a successful tuck.

Nose job or rhinoplasty

Thinking of getting a Nose Job (Rhinoplasty)

Here’s what you need to know about Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty, or as its better known by its street name, a nose job, is the no. 1 celebrity procedure. Prevalent mostly among female stars the ideal nose is small, straight and pointed slightly upwards. 106 degrees to be exact. Studies have shown that the desired “ideal nose” has a 106-degree tilt and is no wider than one fifth of the face. Scarlett Johansson is the reigning owner of the perfect nose. This is ironic since some of her earlier photos suggest she might have had some work done herself.

What can rhinoplasty do for you?

Rhinoplasty is a nose reshaping procedure that can alter the nose size, width, profile and the size and position of the nostrils. Some people get rhinoplasty for non-cosmetic reasons as well, like correcting breathing difficulties.

There’s two types of primary rhinoplasty, open and closed.  Open rhinoplasty is done for major nose reshaping where the incision is made along the soft tissue between the nostrils. During closed rhinoplasty incisions are made inside of the nostril. This produces much less swelling and scar tissue so it’s ideal for smaller corrections.

There’s a third type called filler rhinoplasty which is the opposite: instead of removing a bump, a surgeon uses an injectable filler to even out any depressions. Healing time for rhinoplasty is long; while major swelling and discomfort will disappear after 12 weeks, it can take up to a full year for all the swelling to disappear.

The procedure

It’s a relatively short procedure lasting up to three hours that will cost you about 5000 $. The patient, depending on the complexity of the procedure, will receive local or general anaesthesia. After making the appropriate incision the surgeon raises the soft tissue covering the nose thus exposing its structure. This enables him to reshape the nose to his liking. If necessary, the surgeon uses cartilage from the septum or the ear to craft the nose into desired shape. The nasal skin and tissue are then re-joined and the incision closed. A cast might be placed on the nose to ensure proper healing.

Is rhinoplasty for you?

If you’re thinking of getting a nose job it’s important you want it for the right reasons and that you’re realistic with your expectations. A surgeon won’t be able of giving you someone else’s nose; each nose has its own unique bone structure and characteristics. A surgeon can operate within those frames. Keep in mind that not every nose will look the same on each face. The most important thing is to make your nose match the unique characteristics of your face thus enhancing your features to the fullest.

Breast augmentation: what you need to know

Breast augmentation (Boob jobs)  to this day remain one the most common plastic surgeries. Voluptuous breasts have been a sign of womanhood and fertility throughout the ages and are still considered as one of the sexiest and most desired attributes of a woman. Women go under the knife for three main reasons: increasing breast size due to aesthetic purpose, reconstructive surgery following trauma and fixing developmental defects.

Silicone or Saline?

There are two types of implants: silicone and saline. Silicone implants are filled with silicone gel, while saline implants are filled with sterile salt water. While silicone implants supposedly feel more natural, they are also more prone to complications and are generally less safe than the saline ones. A breast augmentation surgery will cost you anywhere between 5000 $ and 10.000$. Additionally, silicone implants cost an average of 1000 $ more.

How is the procedure done?

The patient is given general anesthesia and is not awake during the procedure which lasts one to two hours. Depending on the type of implant and the individual patient, the surgeon will cut under the breast, around the nipple or under the arms to insert the implants. The implant is placed through the incision into a pocket, bellow or above the chest muscle, and closed up with stitches when the implants are in place. After surgery the breasts are covered with gauze and the patient will be required to wear a surgical bra while they heal. Healing is painful and uncomfortable, requiring some patients to resolve to over the counter pain killers. It’s necessary to hold off any physical activity and heavy lifting during the healing process. With the correct aftercare, the swelling goes down and the scars disappear within a few weeks.

A few things to remember

Like any surgery, Breast augmentation does not come without any risk involved. As silicone is poisonous to the body it is necessary for a woman to get an MRI scan every two years to ensure her implants are intact. Surgery might also affect the ability to breastfeed.

Some patients suffer from post-surgery complications like the loss of sensitivity in the nipple area and persisting pains. It’s also important to remember that the majority of women that undergo the surgery must eventually follow up with additional procedures.  The longer the implants are in place, the higher the risk of complications. Most common complications are damaged leaking implants and the development of a scar shell around it; both requiring the implants to be either removed or replaced with new ones.

No surgery, cosmetic or not, comes without risk. It is important to review all the data before deciding to undergo a breast augmentation. It might not fit into every woman’s lifestyle and the cons might outweigh the pros. Many women, however, are extremely happy with their results and claim the procedure has massively improved their quality of life.
