Korean Diet Little Secret. Is it Kimchi?

This Korean Diet Secret may finally help you control your cravings

Famous as the land of the slim, it’s no wonder Korea has an abundance of diet plans. One notable diet plan, followed by celebrities and the everyday girl on the street, is the sweet potato or ‘goguma’ diet.

Aren’t Sweet Potatoes Unhealthy?

Sweet potatoes are in fact a generally healthy food, and filling too! 100g of steamed sweet potato contains about 90 calories on average, while also providing a variety of vitamins. Sweet potatoes contain over a day’s worth of natural antioxidant, vitamin A, as well as other essential vitamins such as B-5, B-6, B-1, niacin, and riboflavin. So while helping you to control cravings, they also make your skin glow!

The best thing is that sweet potatoes don’t have a substantial effect on your blood sugar levels, so is a great choice if you are looking to avoid blood sugar crashes. It is also a great choice if you want to tame a wild cravings for sweets, so if you find yourself reaching for a sweet or a chocolate in the middle of the afternoon, perhaps the answer is right here!

How Do You Prepare Them?

The general preference is for steamed or baked sweet potatoes, served with or without the skins. The skins can be a little bitter, so you can peel them off if you like. How many to eat? It depends on the size, but a lot of girls just use sweet potatoes as an easy go to work lunch, as a main in a salad, or just munch on sweet potatoes alone. Some take it to the extreme, and eat only sweet potatoes, however I would not recommend that! Your body needs variety, and eating only sweet potatoes would leave you bored and craving burgers after a day. Either way, it’s a tasty way to satisfy a craving for sweets. Try this Korean Diet; see if it works for you.

paleo diet

The Paleo Diet

Body of a Cave Man? Your intro to the Paleo Diet

The paleo diet has absolutely exploded in popularity the past few years, with celebrities and fitness professionals swearing on it for being one of the healthiest and most effective ways of losing weight. Its author, Loren Cordain, PhD, introduced a simple concept of nutrition that had proven very effective in man individual cases.  The theory behind it is simple: eat as the first humans ate and therefore allow your body to receive nutrients it’s meant to consume, while removing the harmful “unnatural” foods from our lives.

So what’s the gist? What and how much can I eat?

Here are three main things you must eat to follow the diet: lean proteins for strong bones and muscles and healthy immune system, fruits and vegetables rich in antioxidants, minerals, and vitamins which help fight many diseases including cancer, and  healthy Monosaturated fats rich in Omega 3 acids maintain to a healthy brain and help fight obesity as well as heart disease. Carbohydrates should be maintained at a lower moderate level. The diet is also unique in the way that it doesn’t encourage calorie counting or portion control, meaning that one should be able to eat as much food as they please.

Sounds good? Now the bad news: what can’t you eat?

Cereal grains and legumes should be excluded from the diet which means your soy, rye, wheat, brown rice, various beans etc. are a thing of the past.

Vegetable and hydrogenated oils are to be replaced with coconut oil or butter.

A thing that is very hard for some people to adjust to is eliminating all dairy products except butter and, if you absolutely can’t avoid it, raw full-fat dairy.

Lastly, this should come as no surprise, added sugar such as soft drinks and processed foods aren’t to be consumed at all.

It’s not just a diet, it should be a lifestyle

The Paleo diet shouldn’t be adapted as a quick fix for your bikini body after which you just bounce back go back to your old eating habits. The author encourages people to accept this as a way of life. It’s also, in many ways, a very forgiving lifestyle as it urges people to eat when they’re hungry regardless if that means skipping a meal or two; your body should be able of telling you when and what it requires. Sleep a lot, don’t over-exercise (especially if you feel low on energy) and find time to relax and enjoy life. Stress causes the most weight gain and disables you of living a healthy balanced life.

Although the gluten free diet is primarily designed for those with the celiac disease, it can be used by anyone for a number of health benefits it provides. The diet came into prominence when it was discovered it helps people whose small intestine is sensitive to gluten, the so-called celiac disease. Since, the diet has become very popular as weight losing diet as well, because eliminating gluten usually means eating less unhealthy foods.

Which Foods are Rich in Gluten?

Gluten is a protein found in grains like wheat, barley, rye, and corn. Because these grains are commonly used in our diets, anyone can get in touch with gluten. This means that gluten can be found in almost every type of snack, pastries, cookies and candies. In fact, gluten is so common that the processed foods that don’t have it are usually labeled gluten-free.

Apart from pastas and pastries, other foods that are known for being rich in gluten include potato and tortilla chips, processed meats, French fries, and even beer. All kinds of flour usually contain high amounts of gluten. When it comes to rice, soy, and quinoa, they shouldn’t have gluten, unless mixed with other foods.

Benefits of Eliminating Gluten from Your Diet

Apart from obvious benefit it has on your small intestine, gluten free diet can also help you lose weight. This protein doesn’t have a direct impact on fat metabolism, but gluten is usually a part of foods that do have an impact. Gluten is commonly found in grains that are made of carbohydrates, which are used by the body as the fuel. Eliminating those foods from your diet will allow your body to metabolize its own fat.

Is Gluten Free Diet Difficult?

A few decades ago, it would be rather difficult to find foods that don’t contain gluten. In fact, you would’ve had to focus your entire diet solely on meat and vegetables. Luckily, today, there are lots of products that are gluten-free, including pastries and pasta. Still, even today, the majority of carbohydrate-rich foods contain this protein, so it is necessary to check for labels and get only those products that are gluten-free.

People have been looking to lose excessive fat for ages, but all strategies used to focus simply of eating less. That was the case until American physician Robert Atkins made a sort of revolution when he came up with a new kind of diet. Since it was first published in mid-1960s, the Atkins diet was met with a lot of success. It’s no surprise, because with this diet people don’t need to starve themselves, while still losing unwanted fat. The key to this diet is finding the right ratio between the daily consumption of carbohydrates, proteins and fats.

Low-Carbohydrate Fad Diet

Because of its properties, this diet is often referred to as the low-carbohydrate fad diet. The whole point of the diet is to reduce the intake of carbohydrates, thus making the body to use body fat as the primary source of energy. Removing simple carbohydrates from your diet will lower the levels of insulin, which will then start ketosis. Ketosis is the process when the body starts converting fat cells into energy, instead of metabolizing glucose.

Atkins Diet Phases

Usually, Atkins diet is split into 4 different stages, although most people customize this plan according to their needs. In general, the diet starts with the introductory phase which lasts for two weeks, during which the consumption of carbs is reduced to minimum. The second phase lasts a week or two, during which leafy vegetables and nuts are introduced back to the diet. The phase three involves introducing more foods rich in carbohydrates, while the final stage is preparing the body for finishing the diet and getting back to regular life.

Low Glycemic Foods

Although, the fact is that carbohydrates are used by the body for producing energy, different types have different values. Glycemic Index of a food shows what effect it has on the blood’s glycose, that is, how fast will the carbs from that food turn into energy. Simple sugars have high glycemic index, which is why sweets, candies and sugary drinks are your worst enemy when it comes to losing weight. You should avoid consuming them, especially when on Atkins diet, as they can ruin the whole process.
