Face lift or facial rejuvenation is in the domain of cosmetic surgery and involves lifting or tightening of the skin of the face and neck to the desired strength and shape. With age comes a change in the face and neck, which is a normal part of the aging process. Many surgeons believe that due to many factors (genetic, effects of sunlight) this problem comes sooner than expected. Good news that in the 21st century, face lift is a procedure that’s fairly easy to do.
Although the surgery can be done even on the elder people, the most ideal patient is between 40 and 60 years of age. On top of that, it would be ideal if the person weighs normally and has good bone structure. When it comes to features of their face, it would be great if that person had firm and healthy skin, and thin neck.
If you fit the profile, you have nothing to worry about – almost any clinic in the world can help you with your problem. Those who don’t think they are ideal for the face lift surgery should not despair. The trick is simply to pick a better surgeon. You might need to pay more, but you will not get disappointed with the results.
How is Face Lift Performed?
Face lift (rhytidectomia) is aimed to tighten and lift the sagging facial tissues and remove wrinkles. Those who do the face lift can re-establish the pleasant contours of the face and neck, making them look and feel younger.
Face lift can be performed under general, but in most cases, the local anesthesia is used. In general, the incision is hidden in the scalp, in the natural contour of the ear, extends around the ear lobule, behind the ear lobes and ending at the back part of the neck. That assures that the scar can be tucked away easily.
Once the surgery is done, the patient needs to spend a few more hours in the hospital so the medical team can monitor them in order to avoid any possibility of side effects. On the first postoperative day, the patient’s head movements should be reduced to a minimum. The head needs to be elevated at an angle about 30 degrees.
Hair care can start the second or third postoperative day. It is allowed to use a mild shampoo on the third day after surgery. The hair can be dried with a hair dryer at a moderate temperature, but you need to avoid the sun exposure at least one month after the surgery.
